About

I created this blog for DH23Things, a digital skills development programme for Researchers in Arts, Humanities and Social Sciences at Cambridge University.

I’m Joni Henry, a PhD candidate in the Faculty of English at Cambridge University. My thesis examines hagiography and other writings about or to the saints (carols, prayers, charms, calendars etc) in late medieval English manuscripts and early printed books. More broadly, I’m interested in the ‘history of the book’: how the form and format of written, printed or electronic text impacts on how works are made, circulated and read (or ignored).

‘Bokspel’ means ‘a tale from a book’ in Middle English. The aim of this blog is to reflect on tales from books: both the stories within them and the other tales books can tell us about themselves, their makers and their readers.
